ROLE OVERVIEW

The Project Engineer will manage and coordinate engineering and technical projects, ensuring they are completed on time within scope and within budget. This individual will be involved in planning, execution, and monitoring, requiring strong technical expertise and project management skills.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops key, designs, and substantiates packages for FAA-PMA applications.  
• Reverse engineers and troubleshoots electrical or mechanical aircraft components. 
• Uses automatic and manual measuring techniques to record dimensional data.  
• Establishes measurement tolerances using accepted industry practices and/ or review of next higher assemblies fit.  
• Creates, revises, and reviews designs by utilizing CAD software, defining component materials science and metrology plans, etc.)  
• Provides documentation necessary for the process of regulatory certification (i.e.: transmittal letters, certification plans, test plans, substantiation reports, etc.) 
• Researches and collaborates with subject matter experts to evaluate, select, and adapt procedures to solve problems like preparation and execution of design changes.  
• Research and review various aircraft instructions or other pertinent aviation technical information for continued airworthiness (ICA) to evaluate, select, and adapt project requirements.  
• Supports supply chain development of manufacturing methods and processes (i.e., new vendor identification /selection, purchasing requirements and drawing interpretations).   
• Supports quality-related questions regarding drawing interpretation, manufacturing inspection methods, and customer feedback.  
• Coordinates First Article and project conformity inspection activities which affects function, safety and reliability between Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, FAA, and management.  
• Participates in RCCA and preventive actions.   
• Prepares technical packages according to customer or operator requirements.  

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline.  
• 3+ years’ experience in direct work with realization of an engineered product (i.e.: creation of drawings, participation in supplier selection, participation in quality activities in reference to conformity of product).  
• Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention- to -detail.  
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously exercising high critical thinking ability.  
• Strong technical ability (i.e.: Technical writing, CAD programming, GD&T ASME Y14.5 drawing methodologies).  
• Working knowledge of quality inspection methods (automatic and manual measuring equipment).  
• Knowledge of basic manufacturing methods (i.e.: milling, turning, grinding, brazing, etc.)   
• Ability to understand Regulatory requirements for FAA certification (as well as other CAAs).  
• Reverse engineering product development experience.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing inspection and verification activities throughout the production process to ensure that all parts manufactured under the FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) conform to type design, approved data, and regulatory requirements. Strong background with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is required.  The inspector acts as a quality gatekeeper to prevent nonconforming products from advancing, ensuring airworthiness, safety, and compliance are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical certification or associate degree in aerospace/manufacturing preferred.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in aerospace inspection, preferably with FAA PMA, OEM, or MRO background.  Automotive Industry inspection history is also acceptable.
• Working knowledge of FAA PMA requirements (14 CFR 21.137) is a plus but not required.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Experience using measuring and test equipment (calipers, micrometers, CMM, vision systems, hardness testers, etc.).  Prior experience with Keyence brand vision systems is a plus but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping, and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with production, engineering, and quality teams.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive inspection tasks.
• Capable of lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted.
• Visual acuity sufficient to perform detailed inspections.
• Can pass color blindness testing.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Metrologist reports to and supports the Quality Department while working closely with Engineering regarding measurement methods, equipment selection, calibration, measurement uncertainty, and inspection system capability. 

The Metrologist will also perform inspections to verify compliance and work closely with Engineering to develop fixtures capable of multiple measurements at one time to both speed up the process and provide less variation of results from person to person. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Measurement System Management 
• Establish appropriate measurement methods for dimensional and functional characteristics. 
• Determine whether inspection equipment has sufficient accuracy for the required measurement. 
• Assist others in selecting appropriate measurement equipment for specific drawing characteristics. 
• Evaluate measurement resolution, accuracy, repeatability, and capability. 
• Develop and maintain measurement procedures and work instructions. 
• Support the selection and qualification of new inspection equipment.
• Gauge and Fixture Control.
• Establish inspection requirements for fixed and variable gauges.
• Establish calibration or verification intervals for inspection fixtures. 
• Develop gauge verification procedures. 
• Determine appropriate acceptance criteria for gauge verification. 
• Ensure fixtures used to determine product conformity are properly identified and controlled. 
• Support the design and qualification of inspection fixtures. 
• Inspection Support 
• Provide technical support to inspectors regarding measurement methods. 
• Train inspection personnel in proper use of measurement equipment. 
• Develop standardized measurement techniques for difficult or critical characteristics. 
• Assist with inspection problems involving: 
• Tight dimensional tolerances, Geometric tolerances, Surface finish, Angles, Radii, Profiles, Concentricity/runout, Flatness, Perpendicularity, Position, Contour measurements 
• Assist in determining the appropriate inspection method when the drawing does not clearly specify a measurement technique. 
• Nonconformance and Corrective Action 
• Support MRB and NCR investigations involving measurement equipment.
• Investigate discrepancies caused by measurement-system problems.
• Perform root-cause analysis of calibration failures. 
• Evaluate historical measurements when equipment is found out of tolerance. 
• Establish containment actions when measurement-system accuracy is questionable.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions. 
• Trend calibration failures to identify recurring problems. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Metrology, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be accepted. 
• 3–7 years of experience in dimensional metrology, calibration, inspection, or aerospace manufacturing. 
• Strong understanding of dimensional measurement principles. 
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. 
• Experience with calibration systems and measurement equipment. 
• Ability to determine appropriate measurement equipment based on tolerance and application. 
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills. 
• Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills.
